2001 Toyota Tundra 4x4 Front Wheel Scraping Noise
So far I have installed new front wheel bearings struts and shocks while I had the front end down.
2001 toyota tundra 4x4 front wheel scraping noise. Everytime i reverse straight back it kind of sounds like i am running over a metal grate and when i turn and reverse thats when i get the pop and kind of grinding and wobbling on the steering wheelthis only happens when i reverse not in drive. But I changed the wheel bearings and it is still there. 1 brake failure on off ramp.
Spin the wheel slowly by hand and see if its smooth or if theres some roughnesscogging in the bearing. Those can bend pretty easily and is an easy fix just bend it back lol. Jack and Wiggle With your Tundra on jack stands youll want to look and see if the wheel is wiggling at the bearing.
It is like a bearing howilin and it evens out at about 70mph but is consistant it will not change when changing lanes or sharp turns in four wheel drive it stays consistant but sounds like its coming from up front and it started making a grinding noise if you get on gas to hard from a stand still and will do it if you are rolling and still at a slow speed and hit the gas sharply also i. First I thought it was coming from the driveshaft or the frontrear diff but wasnt sure. And my truck is making a grinding noise.
This has been going on for a couple months now but starting getting really bad the last couple of weeks ago every time i would jack the truck up to see what it is i couldnt find anything nothing loose no. Explain when and how it happens. Metal high pitched sound prob a brake pad sticking grinding sound more likely a wheel bearing.

Its the front diff. Switch it to 4WD and it goes away again. Sounds like a wheel bearing.
